How to Install a Pocket Door Quick & Easy

1. Gather Your Tools and Materials

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • Pocket door kit (includes frame, track, and hardware)
  • New pocket door
  • Screwdriver
  • Level
  • Saw (hand or circular saw)
  • Measuring tape
  • Stud finder
  • Utility knife
  • Drill

    2. Prepare the Wall Opening

    • Locate Studs: Use a stud finder to identify studs in the wall where you’ll install the pocket door.
    • Remove Drywall: Carefully cut and remove drywall where the door and pocket frame will be installed. Make the opening large enough to accommodate the pocket frame and sliding mechanism.
    • Remove Existing Door & Frame: If replacing an old door, remove the door and the existing frame entirely.

      3. Install the Pocket Door Frame

      • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for assembling the pocket door frame.
      • Position the frame inside the wall cavity where the pocket door will slide.
      • Secure the Frame: Use screws to secure the pocket door frame to the wall studs. Make sure the frame is level and plumb to ensure smooth operation.

        4. Attach the Track + The Hardware

        • Install the sliding track along the top of the pocket door frame. Make sure its smooth
        • Attach the rollers and other hardware to the top of the door as per the pocket door kit instructions. it should come easy

          5. Hang the Door

          • Lift the door and hang it onto the track using the rollers. Slide the door back and forth to confirm it glides smoothly.
          • Make any necessary adjustments to the rollers or track to ensure the door moves freely and aligns properly.

             


            6. Finish the Installation

            • Replace the drywall over the pocket frame, being careful not to damage the door or track.
            • Patch and paint the drywall to match the surrounding wall.
            • Install the door trim or casing to conceal the edges of the pocket frame.

              7. Test the Door

              • Slide the door open and closed a few times to ensure it operates smoothly and latches properly. Make adjustments if needed.
