Installing a Ring Doorbell is a straightforward process, whether you’re replacing an existing doorbell or installing one for the first time. Follow this guide to set up your Ring Doorbell quickly and easily.

What You’ll Need

Before you begin, gather the following tools and items:

  • Your Ring Doorbell device
  • A smartphone with the Ring app installed
  • A drill (if mounting on a hard surface like brick or concrete)
  • A screwdriver (usually provided in the box)
  • Mounting screws and anchors (included with the device)
  • A level (optional but recommended)

Step 1: Charge the Battery

If you have a battery-operated Ring Doorbell, charge the battery fully before installation. Connect it to a USB charger using the provided cable, and wait until the LED light turns green.

Step 2: Download and Set Up the Ring App

  1. Download the Ring app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Open the app and create an account or log in.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to add your new device.

Step 3: Turn Off Power (For Wired Models)

If you’re replacing a wired doorbell, turn off the power at the circuit breaker to avoid electrical shocks. Remove the existing doorbell and disconnect the wires.

Step 4: Mount the Ring Doorbell

  1. Hold the Ring Doorbell against the wall where you want to install it.
  2. Use a pencil to mark where the mounting holes will go.
  3. If mounting on brick, concrete, or stucco, drill pilot holes and insert the provided anchors.
  4. Secure the doorbell to the wall using the provided screws.

Step 5: Connect the Wiring (For Wired Models)

  1. If connecting to existing wiring, attach the wires to the terminals on the back of the Ring Doorbell.
  2. Secure the device to the wall.
  3. Restore power at the circuit breaker and check if the Ring Doorbell powers on.

Step 6: Attach the Faceplate

Once the device is secured, snap the faceplate onto the Ring Doorbell. If your model includes security screws, use the special screwdriver to fasten them at the bottom.

Step 7: Set Up in the Ring App

  1. Follow the in-app prompts to connect your Ring Doorbell to Wi-Fi.
  2. Customize your settings, such as motion detection zones and notifications.
  3. Test the doorbell by pressing the button and checking video/audio functionality.
